Sontag Foundation to Give $365,000 to Local Nonprofit Organizations
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (February 15, 2006) - The Sontag Foundation has awarded grants totaling $208,000 to four local charities. These grants represent new commitments in addition to the $157,000 to be disbursed this month as part of multi-year grants awarded in previous years.
The Sontag Foundation's 2006 grants were awarded to support new program initiatives designed by local nonprofits to meet a need not currently being provided for their clients. $96,000 grant was awarded to Barnabas Center in Nassau County as a three-year commitment to assist in the provision of medical care to financially underprivileged individuals through Samaritan Health Clinic. Boys Home Association Family Services was awarded $63,000 for their program designed to provide foster children with skills they will need to live independently as adults. The Foundation also made a $24,000 grant to The DePaul School for a new educational program to enhance the reading and writing skills of students with learning disabilities. Financial literacy was the focus of the program need being met by St. Johns Housing Partnership, which was awarded a $25,000 grant.
Due to multi-year commitments previously made by The Sontag Foundation, four additional non-profit organizations will receive grants in 2006. Grove House Supportive Services will receive an additional $37,000 to fund their residential program for adults with brain injuries. $25,000 grant will continue to support the First Serve Life Skills program of Mali'Vai Washington Kids' Foundation. Volunteers in Medicine will receive an additional $35,000 to assist their clients with prescription needs. The final $60,000 of a three-year commitment to St. Vincent's Adolescent Care Mobile will also be disbursed.
The Sontag Foundation is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals by supporting medical research in selected fields on a national level as well as by addressing social needs in the Jacksonville area. Since 2002, The Sontag Foundation has awarded over $12 million in grants.
