The Sontag Foundation Awards $60,000 for Mobile Health Outreach for Adolescents
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (September 9, 2004) - The Sontag Foundation has awarded $60,000 to support St. Vincent's Ronald McDonald Care Mobile in providing much needed medical services to adolescents in low-income areas of Jacksonville. The Sontag Foundation has also pledged an additional $120,000 to further support this program during 2005 and 2006. This commitment represents the first grant of a local funding initiative recently launched by The Sontag Foundation. This current health initiative will target adolescents in six area high schools where access to health care is limited and health risk factors are high. Since St. Vincent's has provided mobile health outreach for more than ten years, it is an excellent partner for this project. The current initiative will work through Duval County's Full Service Schools program to provide primary medical care, screenings and referrals to adolescents who might have no other access to medical care.
